Three-time Olympian Peter Kauzer is an admired and respected champion of Canoe Slalom. A master of skill and technique, the Slovenian paddler has claimed a medal at every major event in the sport.

The 34 year-old describes himself as a perfectionist who loves to smile and have fun. His father, Peter Kauzer Senior, introduced him to kayaking when he was six-years-old. Since then, Peter’s life has revolved around water and the sport remains his biggest passion today.

In June 2014, Kauzer dislocated his shoulder at the first ICF World Cup, leaving him out of action for the rest of the season. After a long and turbulent recovery, the Slovenian athlete reclaimed his strength and proved his resilience by winning the overall World Cup title the following year. Kauzer nearly scraped the title of his dreams when he won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The taste of glory left the athlete hungry for even more success.

This year, Kauzer competed in his 10th Canoe Slalom World Championships. In the semi-final, the Slovenian wowed the crowd after executing an immaculate run that left him in front of the field by four seconds. The Red Bull athlete replicated the fantastic performance in his final, provisionally claiming his third world championship title. However, a late penalty was added to his time slipping Kauzer into third place. After the taste of victory, a relegation is a bitter moment for any athlete. Yet the Slovenian gracefully accepted his fifth world championship medal. The satisfaction and happiness he felt for his two impressive performances outweighed the temporary bitterness.

Kauzer, who has his eyes on Tokyo 2020, will head to Australia for three months in order to prepare for the 2018 International Season.

Off the water, the Red Bull athlete enjoys snowboarding, surfing and cross-country skiing.

Quote: “I welcome the challenge with open arms. That’s why I play this game. I love challenges and proving people wrong!”
