Austria’s junior K1M paddler, Felix Oschmautz, is certainly one to watch out for in future Canoe Slalom competitions. Despite his young age, Oschmautz has already made his mark on the international senior stage, challenging the world’s top kayak men.
Last year, Oschmautz revealed his talent when he finished 6th at his first Senior European Championships in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia. In the junior category, the eighteen-year-old won a silver medal at both the Junior World Championships and the Junior European Championships.
At the 2017 Senior European Championships in Tacen, Oschmautz won the semi-final, topping an impressive field of world-class paddlers. He placed 15th in his second European Championships final.
Felix entered his last Junior World Championships as a hot favourite. After finishing second in both the qualifications and semi-final, Felix improved in his final run, claiming his first junior World Championships title in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Following this successful year on the water, Felix won Austrian Youth Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row.
The young athlete, who is also in the army, enjoys mountain biking, swimming, skiing and freestyle kayaking.
