HYDROSTADIUM - THE RIVERBOX® (France) - Nominee for the 2016 'Industry Professional' of the year award.

The Riverbox® is an innovative new research and design concept from Hydrostadium, a wholly owned subsidiary of Electricité de France (EDF). A simple design with grand prospects, the Riverbox® would be built from transportable modules supported by scaffolding – a construction design that would be widely accessible to those not currently able to build a whitewater stadium.

A number of features set this manmade stadium design apart from other whitewater arenas. Courses could easily be constructed with completely different levels of gradient, catering for Olympic level events or whitewater beginners.

250 metres of whitewater will take up an area smaller than a football field, making this a space efficient design suitable for the ever-growing cities of the modern world.

The volume of water required to run a Riverbox® is only one and half times the volume of an Olympic sized swimming pool. The power necessary for pumping this water is comparable to the amount used for a chairlift.

Hydrostadium have been managing the whitewater course engineering of EDF since 2001. They have over fifty employees with a wide range of invaluable areas of expertise, such as civil engineering, geotechnical, hydraulic, mechanical, electromechanical, electricity, environment, and instrumentation and control.
