Mélanie Chanvillard knows the sport of canoe/kayak better than any other professional journalist. The way she is able to captivate her audience and make people fall in love with paddling through her words is incredible.

Mélanie was a competitive kayaker for over 20 years and a member of the French national canoe sprint team from 1997-2004. Throughout her pursuits as an athlete she always intended on becoming a journalist, specialising in sport.

In 2005, following her journalism studies she started working for CKM (Canoe Kayak Magazine) where she is able to balance her love for journalism and passion for paddle sports. Mélanie still writes articles and manages their website. She strives to cover as many international competitions as possible, focussing mainly on wildwater, canoe sprint, para-canoe, canoe slalom and canoe polo.

Currently Mélanie works as an image journalist reporter for a local French TV channel. In addition to this she also produces videos for the French Federation of Canoe Kayak (FFCK) which covers their international events as well as profiles of French team athletes as they’re preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games.

As a former athlete and an active journalist, Mélanie endeavours to lift the profile of canoe/kayak in France. She is currently working with the French Canoe Federation to develop tools that will ultimately enable TV channels to easily access canoe/kayak images.

Through her writing and photography, the passion Mélanie puts in to her work from a professional and voluntary standpoint is unparalleled. For this she is being nominated for the Media Professional of the year.
