ANDREA HERZOG (Germany) - Nominee for the 2015 'Sports Junior of the Year' award.

  • Born: 1999, Disciplines: Canoe/Kayak Slalom, Represents: Germany
  • 2015: Gold C1 individual, C1 Teams & silver K1 Teams, Junior World Championships.

At just 15 years old Andrea Herzog made her mark on the international scene at the Junior World Championships in Brazil where she won two golds and a silver medal.

Andrea first gold medal came in the individual C1 event. With a world class field the final was anyones race for the taking, and Andrea shone to the top to take the win in a time of 113.03s, with only 0.65s separating the top three finishes. Andrea then teamed up with her teammates to win the C1 team event. Furthermore Andrea proved her versatility where she swapped a single for a double blade in the K1 Team event where her team won a silver medal. A switch which many people struggle to conquer.

Andrea has been kayaking since 2008 and is fascinated by slalom racing due to the skill it requires. She says the water is a difficult element to control, where conditions can change every second, so you always need to be focussed.

At such a young age Andreas drive, determination and skill will ensure she is a forced to be reckoned with into the future.

Activities and achivements on and off the water:

  • Andrea has always wanted to kayak always faster than her big brother
  • In winter she likes to hit the slopes and in summer cycle racing.
