Waveskis are a form of surf craft where the paddler is seated and propels himself onto a wave by using a double bladed paddle. Waveskis are generally around 2 meters in length, with 3 fins and seatbelt plus foot straps. They are made from carbon or fibreglass with custom made designs catering for the top end Waveski surfer.
Waveskis have been around since the late 60’s and during the early 2000’s it has developed into a world wide recreational and competitive sport catering for people of all ages and ability. Competitions are held in many countries and the use of social media platforms has seen the exposure of the sport increasing.
Waveski surfer’s are judged on their ability to execute radical manoeuvres in the power pocket of the wave and linking up sections which is not too dissimilar to conventional surfing.
The World Waveski Surfing Association (WWSA) is the governing body for the administration of world Waveski international events and from 2016, adaptive Waveski divisions have been added to the event program.
Other surf-paddlesports: surf kayaking, SUP surfing and surfski.
