Recognising the year's most outstanding female athlete or female team. This award is given to the athlete making the greatest contribution to any paddlesport in terms of overall excellence in performance and sportsmanship.

The award may only be given to an athlete who has been competing (inlcuding expeditions) in the last year.

If a team wins the award the name of the award becomes 'Sportswomen of the Year'.

In an Olympic year nominations for the disciplines canoe sprint and canoe slalom fall under a special award category.
