Since he started paddling in 1951 at the age of 18, Finn Larsen has been dedicated to the continual development of canoeing in Denmark. His tireless commitment to the Maribo Kayak Club and his National Federation has undoubtedly helped Denmark become one of the leading countries in sprint canoeing today.

Not long after taking up paddling, Finn started coaching at Maribo Kayak Club where he has since dedicated a huge amount of time to the development of athletes. In addition to being the Chairman of the Club and holding various other positions throughout his time, Finn was also the chairman for the Sjaelland-Lolland-Falster Region and a member of the board of the Danish Canoe-Kayak Federation. Within this Federation he has also been very active within the sports committee and was the National Canoe Marathon coach for many years.

Throughout his years as a coach Finn has been responsible for many talented athletes who were born and raised at Maribo Kayak Club including World Champions and Olympic medalists Rene Holten Poulsen and Emma Aastrand Jorgensen. However, no matter the age, ability or results of Finn’s athletes, he is always proud of their achievements. Reaching small milestones like executing a perfect race and paddling faster than expected are accomplishments that are just as big as a victory for Finn.

Finn Larsen’s extraordinary contribution to the sport earned him the 2017 WPA Lifetime Achievement Award which also see’s him automatically earn a seat on the World Paddle Awards Academy. With his passion and expertise, Finn will be a valued member of the Academy.
