(2014 ARCHIVED) Canoe Slalom Team - France

TEAM FRANCE CANOE SLALOM - Nominee for 'Sports Team of the Year'
The French Canoe Slalom team has decades upon decades of experience and a reputation for power and finesse. They certainly have the results to show for it.
France was number one in the 2014 World Championships medal tally based on either gold medals or total medals. They won four gold, two silver and two bronze in the individual events, making a total of eight medals. France also had the most medals in the tally from the 2013 World Championships in Prague, showing intimidating consistency.
At the 2014 worlds, the French K1 men smashed the field with a mind-blowing 1-2-3 on the podium. The first three positions were closely followed in 4th and 5th by paddlers who originally paddled for France. The presence of these and other ex-French paddlers in international finals is a further testament to the depth of talent in the French K1 men field.
In the C2 men’s category France took out the first three positions in both qualification runs & converted this to a silver medal in the final. France also won the C2M, K1W and K1M teams events and took bronze in the C1W.
During the World Cups the French team took home three gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the individual events. The teams races were yet another platform for French success - at the first World Cup in Lee Valley, they won a medal in every team they competed in, or four out of the five teams events.

Any profile on the French Canoe Slalom Team has to mention the London 2012 Olympics, where Emilie Fer (K1W) and Tony Estanguet (C1M) won a gold medal each for France.
The French team are a force to reckon with on the canoe slalom circuit. For their outstanding results across all the major international events in 2014, they have been nominated for the ‘Sports Team of the Year’ award.
