Max Gohier from Saint Lo, is the player-Captain who led the French men's team to a 3-2 victory over Germany at the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships in September 2014, held on homesoil in France – as you can imagine the reception from the home crowd was monumental, not even the fog could dampen their spirits!
France comfortably won all their games in group C, progressed steadily through the rounds with only Spain really testing them in the semi-final with a narrow 2-1 France final score.
Under Max's command, France were twice before World Champions in 2006 and 2010. 'Les bleus' won silver in 2008, losing out to gold medalists The Netherlands; perhaps bitter sweet revenge for France winning the final in Amsterdam against Italy 2 years earlier! In 2012 France won bronze in the third place play-off.
Max has been golden-eyed too at European level; France won the 2011 championships in Madrid, Spain, plus Max was an integral part of the U21 winning squad in 2001. The French senior men's team also took away bronze in 2007.
As for the 2013 World Games Max's France lost out to strong, powerful Germany after a gruelling 4-5 showdown in the final; it was an all-European affair with Italy taking the third place bronze. Yet 4 years earlier at the Kaohsiung Games it was France the conquerers over rivals the Dutch.
Max has also demonstrated his prowess domestically as he 10 times French national canoe polo Champion – a blistering and certainly unrivalled achievement.
Activities and achievements off the water:

- Max studied his masters in sport's training, ergonomics and movement
- His profession is a teacher of sport
