The 2016 World Paddle Awards will be hosted by Nelo in Portugal 18 February 2017. Five months after the Olympic Games and the Paralympics, this will be the second biggest event in the 2016 paddling calendar.

Writer: Alyce Burnett - A big season of paddlesports with countless inspiring, groundbreaking and breathtaking performances has meant many people all over the world are deserving of a nomination to the 2016 World Paddle Awards.

Whilst we know there are so many deserving athletes, coaches, officials, brands, media personal, event organisers and supporters out there, we are [three weeks earlier than planned] closing the voting for this season due to the categories being full. We have received hundreds of nominations from all disciplines and communities and can’t wait to showcase them to the world. Our copywriters/researchers are making overtime preparing the nominee profiles that will show the world how amazing they are!

In the athlete categories (sports man/woman/junior) there are still a few spots available for nomination that we will keep open given there are still some major competitions to come, such as the Adidas Sickline Extreme World Championship, freestyle events and ocean races.

Following the submissions of the final nominations, the voting campaign will commence. This is where the public and the WPA Academy can vote for their favourite(s) in each category.

In its third year, the support and excitement for the World Paddle Awards is building, with the award categories filling up in record time. The way these awards embrace the diversity of people and organisations and honour the hard work they put into our sport has bought the entire community together. Because of this, we are confident that it is a permanent fixture on the paddlesports calendar for many years to come.
