- 2016 - U21 World Championships Top Goal Scorer (28 goals)
Jack Playford is proof that hard work does pay off. As evidence, he has a World Championship gold medal to show for it as part of the Great Britain U21 Canoe Polo Team. To top that, he finished as the top scorer in the ICF event held in Sicily, Italy in 2018. Not bad for a young guy who not so long ago thought canoeing was something to do with “floating around a lake with your mates.”
Jack started Canoe Polo at age 12 when a local teacher, a former GB international player, spotted his potential. He quickly moved on to the local club Meridian Canoe Club. The team gained four back-to-back promotions and now plays in the top flight in England. To his list of accomplishments, Jack has now added the title of Captain of the World-Championship-Winning GB U21 team for 2018, World Championship Top Goal-Scorer, and European Club Championship Silver Medalist. He’s also highly regarded by his team mates and peers as a thoroughly nice guy. At only 20 years of age, he has already successfully pushed and inspired young polo players to be better than their senior counterparts.
TESTIMONIAL/QUOTE:
“My favorite thing about the sport of Canoe-Polo is definitely the team. Winning a gold medal by yourself is pretty good, but what’s even better is winning it with eight of your best mates. I also enjoy the mix between the strength and creativity you need to be the best. It never makes a training session boring.” — Jack Playford.
