Founded: 2017, Sport: Whitewater Kayaking
With a deep passion for the river, and specifically for creek boating, kayaker Alicia Casas Zaragoza (pictured left) is a perfect fit for her role of Manager of the Lulu Love Tour—a collective project created in memory of whitewater kayaker Louise (Lulu) Jull (pictured above), who died in an accident in March 2015. While she met Lulu only two years before she died, Alicia was profoundly affected by her passion for her sport and boundless enthusiasm and energy. Like Lulu, Alicia’s philosophy in life is to live simply and enjoy every minute to the fullest—while travelling and paddling new rivers around the world and competing in as many creek races as possible. She is nominated for co-founding the Lulu Love Tour and managing the initiative on a daily basis.
The Lulu Love Tour is designed to spread “The Lulu Love” by connecting individuals with the amazing community that surrounds the sport of whitewater kayaking. The objective is to bring people together by organizing non-profit events geared towards increasing participation in kayaking, river conservation and outdoor life, while embracing Lulu’s personal philosophy of living in the moment and loving every minute of it. The Tour kicked off August 12, 2017 with an international event in Sort, (Spain) with the aim of promoting both female participation in kayaking and environmental sustainability. Since then, the organization, with Alicia at the helm, has been blazing new trails with similar events, including the Balkan Rivers Tour (winner of The Foundation Award in 2016), a multi-national campaign to raise awareness about “the dam craze” in the Balkans.
Quote/Testimonial:
“While I only knew Lulu for a short time, it was enough to realize that she was one of a kind. She had the power to make you feel awesome, no matter what. I can still feel her positive vibes when I reflect on the amazing experiences we shared. Lou will always live on in my heart and she will continue to inspire my life, as well as the lives of so many others.”— Alicia Casas Zaragoza
