TRAK KAYAKS, THE SEEKER - Nominee for the 2016 'Industry Professional' of the year award.

TRAK Kayaks have been manufacturing portable kayaks since 2006 and their most recent development, the Seeker ST 16, is exceptionally versatile.

Based on the traditional skin-on-frame concept, which goes back 10-15,000 years, the Seeker can be unpacked or repacked in ten minutes. The Seeker packs up small enough to fit in a golf bag so that it can easily be transported by plane or hand to adventure destinations across the globe.  This portability means that the Seeker can also be shipped to customers almost anywhere in the world within three days.

Aside from this, the key feature of the Seeker is its adjustability. Three hydraulic jacks triangulate pressure from the frame to the skin to give the paddling characteristics of a hard shell kayak. These jacks also allow the rocker of the hull to be changed in varying degrees, making the Seeker a versatile kayak that can be used on flat water, rivers or the ocean. The frame shapes the hull in a way that gives hard edges and a V-shape, allowing for speed and tracking.

Seeker design features also include a polyeurethane hull and deck, lateral adjustment, fabric welding technology as opposed to sewn seams, a flat profiled aerospace aluminum frame and the simple Keder zipper system, which gives a more durable and leak resistant seal.

The company began with backyard prototypes in Saskatchewan, CAN. The start-up later moved to Calgary, and manufacturing eventually moved to the Philippines. The manufacturing company was chosen for its world-class reputation in making outdoor gear; they also manufacture for Patagonia and Camelbak.

According to Trak- ‘What was important to us, however, is that they have a reputation in the local Filipino community as an ethical and integral employer that invests sustainably in the well-being and professional development of its employees.’
