At the tender young age of 14 there’s not much that Sage Donelly hasn’t done in the world of kayaking. In 2014 Sage won both the junior women’s K1 & C1 events at the US team trials, while in the open women’s class she was again first in C1 and third in K1.

As well as slalom Sage also loves freestyle, extreme kayaking, downriver and SUP paddling. This year Sage was the US junior women’s freestyle champion and she was second at the GoPro Mountain Games Extreme Creek Race. These are all good  reasons why Sage is Canoe Kayak magazine female paddler of the year!

Sage shares her love of paddlesports with the community by giving school presentations and teaching paddling and river safety lessons. When she’s not kayaking, Sage creates jewellery and donates the proceeds to American Whitewater.

One of the comments on her Facebook Page:

"As a father of two daughters I just want to thank you for being an inspiration to young girls everywhere!"

Sage’s sense of adventure is extraordinary. She has Type 1 diabetes, celiac disease and thyroid disease, but she doesn’t let all that stop her. Sage spends almost half the year living and travelling in a van with her parents; she’s homeschooled so she can fit her paddling exploits in.

Sage Donnelly has been nominated for Sports Junior of the Year because of her sensational results, enthusiasm paddlesports and contributions to the community.
