  • Profession: sports journalist and photographer, nationality: German
  • Disciplines: freestyle, extreme, rafting, downriver, canoe slalom

Peter Deininger and Fred Schöllhorn have enjoyed decades reporting and taking photographs for the Augsburger Allgemeine, arguably one of the world’s most supportive newspapers when it comes to paddlesports.

In 1972 Peter Deininger ran alongside the Olympic flame as it was carried through the centre of Augsburg, Germany, host city for the Canoe Slalom event at its maiden games. Peter has gone on to a thrilling international career. Peter has had the satisfaction of writing about German slalom medalists at each Olympiad from 1992 to 2012, from Elisabeth Micheler at the Barcelona games to Sideris Tasiadis and Hannes Aigner in London. Few reporters could have seen such consistent success in those they write about.

In the thirty years between 1985 and 2014 Peter has bolstered the public profile of canoeing by writing articles on no less than ten World Championships and three European Championships in Augsburg, along with countless other local and international events. Peter combines his first hand historical knowledge of paddlesports with a personal approach to writing about the athletes that gives his work a special touch.
